about
This was the last song on the record that we finished. We built the song around this cut-up hocketed riff, a collection of different instruments (synths, keyboards, guitars) that make one melody. The instrumental had been sitting around on my hard drive fully completed, except for the fact that I was singing the melody in gibberish on top of it. I asked my friend Greta (of Frankie Cosmos) to help us out with the lyrics and she came back to me with a million ideas. Once we found the words “Run It Wild,” the song finally made sense. Everyone keeps moving away, so this is our anthem about building a life where we are, about finding a sense of self and purpose in the people around us instead of worrying about the expectations of the outside world. Run it wild…
lyrics
Lyrics:
Run It Wild:
Calling my bluff – I’m running back home like I just saw the light.
I’ll get a dog the size of my apartment, that’s fine.
And this could be my whole life –
Coffee at night and I never get tired
I don’t want darkness, I just want to lie here…
Run it wild
Run it wild
There’s a life for you
Run it wild
Run it wild
Hold the light for you
Run it wild
Run it wild
There’s a life for you
But I can stay left behind if you want me to…
I can’t find the time, yeah,
It’s getting tough pushing through subway lines
You’re cool in the shade – it’s hot on the train, but I’m fine.
I’ll sift through my whole life to figure out why
I don’t want be anywhere else
Am I a liar?
I just want to lie here…
But if you don’t feel the same,
Build your life miles away –
I don’t mind, I don’t mind, I don’t mind, I don’t mind
Run it wild
Run it wild
There’s a life for you
Run it wild
Run it wild
Hold the light for you (x3)
Ok, lock myself out –
cut to your house on the side of the road
Ok, tear it all down –
now your not around, we can let this all go…
